MARCY, N.Y. -- The Oneida County Sheriff's Office is asking for help from the public after a historic cemetery in Marcy was vandalized. Nearly 15 tombstones have been knocked down or broken since June at Evergreen Cemetery.
Evergreen, located next to the Maynard United Methodist Church, was built in 1839. The cemetery's caretaker says it's going to take a lot of work to repair the damaged stones.

"It's not a common occurrence and when it does occur, it certainly gets the public's attention because cemeteries are really intended to be a sanctuary. They're not something you would normally think about somebody vandalizing," said Oneida County Sheriff's Captain Richard Antanavige.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at (315) 765-2746.
